Inktober – Complete (Days 25 – 31) epilogue…

Finally through! Here is the last 7 days of the month long challenge. It feels really good to have completed all 31 days and just want to say thank you to everyone for the kind words and support throughout this month.

I set out to complete each drawing within an hour, which I found necessary to make the challenge doable. It was really difficult at times and I really tried to make the effort to avoid taking the easy route by doing simple poses just for the sake of having a good looking picture.

DAY 25 – “FILMS”

I really learned what I can achieve within an hour . There was less time to think about things and ultimately  I had to learn to just trust my instincts more. A big take away from that is to not fall back into old ways of being too calculated with my mark making and just be willing to make mistakes.

DAY 26 – “WHISKEY”

I experienced an unexpected challenge after the first week which was that the positive responses and comments I received from people each day began to add a sense of pressure to make each image look good. I was also posting them in a private InkTober group with other artist friends on Facebook which made me feel I had to keep up a certain level of quality with each picture.

DAY 27 – “BOXING”

The little validation I felt for producing a pretty picture was starting to cloud the real reason I decided to do InkTober; to challenge myself, grow and improve my creativity and technical drawing abilities. I find it hard to put out crap pictures and it was difficult at times to get make myself willing to do so to for the sake of improving. Maybe the lesson here is just be willing to be shit sometimes.

DAY 28 – “CLOUDS”

DAY 29 – “RAIN”

DAY 30 – “DUSK”

DAY 31 – “CHILLIS”

I had a lot of fun with these. A lot of them were unfinished so I will be going back and touching up a lot of them because I feel they deserve it.

I hope you enjoyed this series of drawings! I will be looking at making small prints available of all the pages individually soon, in case you liked a particular one.

Thanks for the cool blog post. It’s natural to initially focus on your drawing/shading/perspective skills, but looking at these Inktober drawings it’s so cool to see your creativity and brilliant conceptual mind. They are so much more than drawings. I LOVE rain :)!!

      Thanks Michelle!
I think I’m going to continue illustrating my brothers blog Conversatial using these blockhead characters, in the same style.
I like the limitation of them.
